Normal nutcracker from mouth in conjection with the eggbutt ends takes direct pressure away from the mouth corners.
The oblong plate is fixed at an angle. When pressure is exerted the plate digs down onto the tonque- the longer the plate the more severe the action normal plate is approx 2"/5cm long.
